1 Advocate for issues crucial to the success and survival of independent music retailers (e.g., national sales tax parity, adequate funding for school music, association healthcare).
2 Create promotion and PR campaigns to improve the visibility and recognition of independent music retailers.
3 Recommend, encourage, and publicly recognize manufacturer and vendor business practices that give independent retailers competitive equality.
4 Work with vendors to create MAP policies that reflect the financial realities of independent retailers and discount structures that reward, not punish independent retailers for offering displays, lessons, repairs, and knowledgeable staff.
5 Design and create retail training and educational opportunities in cooperation with manufacturers and other industry associations.
6 Provide a forum for the sharing of best retail practices and the exchange of operational and promotional ideas.
7 Work for increased support for music education at local and regional levels.
8 Partner with NAMM and other industry associations in developing the market for musical instruments.
9 Develop benefit programs, individually and in cooperation with other industry associations, that support retail employees and improve the attractiveness of independent music retailers as employers.
10 Assist in the formation of local and regional independent retailer forums, associations, and activities that enhance the effectiveness of independent music retailers.
11 Provide continuing input to NAMM as to the specific needs of independent retailers.
